Things You'll Need:
- Original Windows XP CD Windows license key
- Step 1Make sure you have your Windows XP license key. It must be the key that came with your version of Windows. If your computer came pre-loaded with Windows, the key will usually be on a sticker on the computer itself.
- Step 2Insert the Windows CD into the CD or DVD drive and restart the computer.
- Step 3Watch the screen during the restart. When a screen comes up that says "Press any key to boot from CD," press a key. Windows will now reboot from the CD.
- Step 4Follow the instructions on the screen. When you get to the screen that offers the choice of pressing "ENTER" to set up Windows XP, or pressing "R" to repair the installation using Recovery Console, choose "ENTER."
- Step 5Read the end-user license agreement and press the appropriate keys. You will be then be given the choice of repairing the current Windows installation, or installing a fresh copy of Windows. Choose "repair." This will leave your files and applications intact while replacing Windows system files.
- Step 6Allow the setup to continue on its own. Follow any instruction on the screen until the reboot is complete and Windows XP has once again booted up on your computer.
